Tucson in 2 days: 15 stops matched to opening days
A Tucson 2-day plan of 15 stops from the NomadSwipe app's place data, each start time checked against stored opening hours. Day one is a downtown and University of Arizona museum day, day two a desert-gardens-and-galleries day. Day one works on Thursday to Saturday, day two on Tuesday to Sunday.
The plan at a glance
- Day 1, downtown and the University of Arizona: the Presidio San Agustín del Tucsón Museum, the Tucson Museum of Art, lunch at 5 Points, the Arizona History Museum, the University of Arizona Museum of Art, the Arizona State Museum and dinner at La Indita.
- Day 2, the desert west and the gardens and galleries north-east: the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tohono Chul, the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, lunch at Frank's Restaurant, the Tucson Botanical Gardens, the Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures, Madaras Gallery and dinner at Bashful Bandit Barbecue.
- Days of the week: day one works on Thursday, Friday and Saturday; day two on Tuesday to Sunday. Monday is the weak day for both: a stored closed day for several museums (see the table below).
- Distance: day one is compact, about 6.3 km in total by straight line between stored coordinates. Day two adds up to about 44.8 km, with legs of 20.52, 8.67 and 8.89 km. These are not driving times.
A Tucson deck of 670 places, with a thin parks list
The Tucson data in the app is split across five destination rows (two named Tucson and three named Tucson, United States) that hold 1,100 cards between them. Those are 775 distinct place IDs, and 692 distinct places once I also merged cards with the same title and address. 22 of those 692 are outside the city by my filter, leaving 670 places in town. Of the 670, 97 are sights by my grouping, in 12 stored categories: park (24), art gallery (22), museum (21), tourist attraction (11), theater and concert hall (11) and seven categories with one or two places each. Only 19 of the 97 are rated 4.0 or higher with at least 100 stored reviews. This plan uses 11 of those 19: seven museums, two gardens and two art galleries.
- The parks are thin. There are 24 park cards, but only one, Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, meets my line, and it has no stored hours. That is why the plan is museum- and garden-led.
- Prices, tickets and parking are left out. I did not source fees or parking from official pages this run, so check each place's own website the day you go.
- Add your own pins. Anything you want that the data lacks is yours to add on the map yourself.
Which days of the week work
I parsed the stored weekly hours of the 14 stops that have them with a script, set a suggested start time for each, and tested every weekday. A stop fails a day if its stored hours are closed, do not cover the start time, or leave less than one hour before closing. The Arizona State Museum has no stored hours, so the script cannot test it.
| Weekday | Day 1 works? | Day 2 works? |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | No (four museums stored as closed) | No (Mini Time Machine stored as closed) |
| Tuesday | No (Tucson Museum of Art, 5 Points and La Indita stored as closed) | Yes |
| Wednesday | No (5 Points stored as closed) | Yes |
| Thursday | Yes | Yes |
| Friday | Yes (the University museum is stored as opening at noon) | Yes |
| Saturday | Yes (La Indita is stored as opening at 5 PM) | Yes |
| Sunday | No (Arizona History Museum and University museum stored as closed) | Yes |
Closed days matter more here than in an outdoors deck. Of the 482 Tucson places with stored hours, 163 show at least one closed day (34%), and 105 show Monday as closed (22%), 86 Sunday (18%) and 56 Tuesday (12%). The university museums are the clearest case: the Arizona History Museum is stored as open 10 AM to 3 PM from Tuesday to Saturday only, and the University of Arizona Museum of Art as open 10 AM to 4:30 PM from Tuesday to Saturday, with noon opening on Friday. The Tucson Museum of Art is stored as closed on Monday and Tuesday. If your two days include a Wednesday, 5 Points is the only failure on day one: La Indita is stored as open 11 AM to 9 PM on Wednesday, so you could take lunch there and skip the dinner stop. Hours also change with the season and on public holidays, so confirm before you go.
Day 1: downtown and the University of Arizona
Day one stays near the centre of town. By straight line between stored coordinates, the farthest pair, 5 Points and the University of Arizona Museum of Art, is 2.89 km apart, and going stop to stop adds up to about 6.3 km. The longest leg is the 2.57 km from lunch to the Arizona History Museum. The two university museums and the Arizona State Museum are 0.34 km or less from each other. I read no transit or road source this run, so I give straight-line distances only and no travel times. Times below are my suggested start times.
- 10:00, Presidio San Agustín del Tucsón Museum: stored as a museum at 196 N Court Ave, 4.6 from 147 reviews. Stored hours are 10 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday to Sunday, and closed on Monday.
- 11:15, Tucson Museum Of Art: stored as a museum at 140 N Main Ave, 4.2 from 376 reviews, open 10 AM to 5 PM from Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday. 0.18 km from the Presidio.
- 12:30, 5 Points: stored as a restaurant at 756 S Stone Ave, 4.5 from 795 reviews. It is stored as open 9 AM to 2 PM and 5 PM to 9 PM on Monday and from Thursday to Sunday, and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. 1.38 km from the art museum.
- 13:45, Arizona History Museum: stored as a museum at 949 E 2nd St, 4.2 from 132 reviews, open 10 AM to 3 PM from Tuesday to Saturday, so a 13:45 start leaves 75 minutes. 2.57 km from lunch.
- 14:45, University of Arizona Museum of Art: stored as a museum at 1031 N Olive Rd, 4.2 from 112 reviews, open 10 AM to 4:30 PM from Tuesday to Saturday (noon on Friday). 0.32 km from the History Museum.
- 15:45, Arizona State Museum: stored as a museum at 1013 E University Blvd, 4.3 from 208 reviews, with no stored hours, so I cannot match it to a weekday. 0.34 km from the museum of art. Check its hours before you rely on a 15:45 start.
- 18:00, La Indita Restaurant: stored as a restaurant at 722 N Stone Ave, 4.4 from 564 reviews, open 11 AM to 9 PM on Monday and Wednesday to Friday, 5 PM to 9 PM on Saturday and noon to 8 PM on Sunday, and closed on Tuesday. 1.49 km from the last museum.

Day 2: the desert west and the gardens and galleries north-east
Day two is a different shape. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is the most reviewed sight card in town and sits far west of everything else. By straight line between stored coordinates, the farthest pair, the Desert Museum and the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun, is 27.39 km apart, and going stop to stop adds up to about 44.8 km. The first three legs are the long ones, 20.52, 8.67 and 8.89 km. After lunch no leg is longer than 3.56 km, and the pair of Mini Time Machine and Madaras Gallery is 0.39 km apart. The centres of the two days are about 5.1 km apart. Times below are my suggested start times.
- 8:30, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum: stored as a museum at 2021 N Kinney Rd, 4.8 from 9,613 reviews, the most reviewed sight in town. Stored hours are 8:30 AM to 5 PM every day, so 8:30 is the opening time.
- 10:45, Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens, Galleries, and Bistro: stored as a garden at 7366 N Paseo del Norte, 4.6 from 1,606 reviews, open 8 AM to 5 PM every day. 20.52 km from the Desert Museum.
- 12:00, DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun: stored as an art gallery at 6300 N Swan Rd, 4.7 from 614 reviews, open 10 AM to 4 PM every day. 8.67 km from Tohono Chul.
- 13:00, Frank's Restaurant-Tucson: stored as a restaurant at 3843 E Pima St, 4.4 from 553 reviews, open 7 AM to 2 PM (from 8 AM on Sunday), so a 13:00 start leaves one hour. 8.89 km from the gallery.
- 14:00, Tucson Botanical Gardens: stored as a garden at 2150 N Alvernon Way, 4.4 from 1,393 reviews, open 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM every day. 0.58 km from lunch.
- 15:00, The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures: stored as a museum at 4455 E Camp Lowell Dr, 4.6 from 808 reviews, open 9 AM to 4 PM from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Monday, so a 15:00 start leaves one hour. 2.24 km from the gardens.
- 16:00, Madaras Gallery: stored as an art gallery at 3035 N Swan Rd, 4.9 from 280 reviews, open 10 AM to 5 PM Monday to Saturday and 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday, so a 16:00 start leaves one hour. 0.39 km from the Mini Time Machine.
- 18:00, Bashful Bandit Barbecue: stored as a restaurant at 3686 E Speedway Blvd, 4.5 from 533 reviews, open 10:30 AM to 8 PM (to 11:30 PM on Friday and Saturday). 3.56 km from Madaras.

What I left out, and why
- Cards outside Tucson. 22 of the 692 distinct places fall outside my city filter: 7 with a California address (Los Angeles and San Diego places, including two zoos), 3 in Phoenix, 11 elsewhere in Arizona (Oro Valley, Green Valley, Sahuarita, Vail, Sierra Vista and others, including the Titan Missile Museum and Tumacacori National Historical Park) and one stored with a Nigerian address but Tucson coordinates.
- Sabino Canyon and the Pima Air & Space Museum. Sabino Canyon Recreation Area (4.7 from 4,926 reviews) has no stored hours. The Pima Air & Space Museum (4.7 from 5,507 reviews, stored as open 9 AM to 5 PM daily) sits 11.6 km or more from every stop in the plan by straight line. I left both out, and either can replace a day-two stop.
- Other qualifying sights. The Children's Museum Tucson (stored as closed Monday), Trail Dust Town (stored as open 4:30 PM to 9 PM daily), the Franklin Auto Museum (open Wednesday to Saturday only), the Tucson Desert Art Museum and Four Corners Gallery (closed Monday and Tuesday), the Gaslight Music Hall (far north on N Oracle Rd) and the Mystery & Magic Dinner Theater Playhouse (no stored hours) all meet the 4.0 and 100-review line. I left them out to keep each day to seven or eight stops, and any of them can replace a stop.
- Sights with no stored hours. 23 of the 97 Tucson sights have none. I used only one such card, the Arizona State Museum, and I flag it in the plan.
- Other restaurants. In the east box, Indian Twist (4.5 from 679 reviews, closed Tuesday) and the dedicated gluten-free bakery and coffee shop (4.6 from 637 reviews, 7 AM to 6 PM on weekdays) also met my meal line and can swap in for lunch or dinner. Hotels are skipped for a day plan.
Getting around between the stops
- Each day has a different shape. Day one is one downtown cluster, then the university, then back to Stone Ave. Day two is the far-west Desert Museum, then Tohono Chul and the DeGrazia Gallery in the north, then a central-east block of gardens, a miniatures museum and a gallery. The first three legs of day two are the ones to plan a ride or drive for. I read no transit, shuttle or parking source, so I give no travel times, fares or parking advice.
- Straight lines understate the trip. Roads make each real leg longer than the straight-line figures above.
- In the app: each card shows its distance and opening status, and the list sorts by rating, distance or A to Z.
How I would swipe the Tucson deck
I built NomadSwipe, so this is the method I would use, not a trip I already took. I would open the Tucson deck and swipe right on the museums, gardens and galleries and a few places to eat, and left on the rest, because only 19 of its 97 sights are rated 4.0 or higher with 100 reviews and only one of the 24 parks meets that line. I would check any card with a missing rating or hours before saving it, and drop anything with a Phoenix or California address, because the deck holds a few. Then I would open the map to see which saved places cluster. In this data they fall into three groups: downtown and the university, the central-east strip of gardens and galleries, and the desert and foothills to the west and north. I used the first for day one and the other two for day two. The closed-day pattern above is the part to check last, because a good cluster can still be shut on a Monday. NomadSwipe is Android only.
Questions about this Tucson plan
Which days of the week work for this Tucson plan?
By the stored hours, day one works on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and day two works on any day from Tuesday to Sunday. Day one fails on Monday because the Presidio museum, the Tucson Museum of Art, the Arizona History Museum and the University of Arizona Museum of Art are stored as closed. It fails on Tuesday because the Tucson Museum of Art, 5 Points and La Indita are stored as closed, on Wednesday because 5 Points is stored as closed, and on Sunday because the Arizona History Museum and the University of Arizona Museum of Art are stored as closed. Day two fails only on Monday, when the Mini Time Machine is stored as closed. The Arizona State Museum has no stored hours, so it is not tested. The hours were read on 6 November 2026, so confirm them before you go.
Do I need a car for this Tucson plan?
I read no transit, shuttle or parking source, so I cannot say what is available. Day one is compact, with legs of 2.57 km or less by straight line between stored coordinates. Day two is not: the first three legs are 20.52 km, 8.67 km and 8.89 km, and the farthest pair of stops is 27.39 km apart. Treat day two as drives or rides and check your own options.
Why are Sabino Canyon and the Pima Air & Space Museum not in the plan?
Both are in the app's Tucson data and both are among the most reviewed sights: Sabino Canyon Recreation Area (4.7 from 4,926 reviews) and the Pima Air & Space Museum (4.7 from 5,507 reviews, stored as open 9 AM to 5 PM daily). Sabino Canyon has no stored hours, and each sits far from my two clusters: by straight line the nearest plan stop is 6.5 km away for Sabino and 11.6 km for Pima. Either can replace a day-two stop if it is why you came.
How were the 15 stops chosen?
I picked cards by hand from the part of the data that is inside Tucson, with a stored rating of 4.0 or higher and at least 100 stored reviews for the sights, then checked each suggested start time against the stored weekly hours. Eleven stops are sights and four are restaurants. The Arizona State Museum has no stored hours, so I kept it for its rating and its position between two other stops.
Build your own two days
I built NomadSwipe to turn a city into a mapped shortlist: swipe real places, save the ones you like, and see them on one map. It is Android only.
Findings, method and sample
Sample and method. I read the NomadSwipe app's place data on 6 November 2026 with read-only queries. Tucson is stored as five destination rows (two named Tucson and three named Tucson, United States) with 503, 345, 144, 89 and 19 cards. I excluded destination rows with the country "Custom", which hold user-typed names. Together the rows hold 1,100 cards, 775 distinct place IDs and 692 distinct places by case-insensitive title and address, because the same place can sit under more than one ID. Where I merged duplicates I kept the card with stored hours, then the one with more reviews. The data is not limited to the city, so I defined "in Tucson" as a card whose stored address contains "Tucson" and whose stored coordinates fall inside a rough box (latitude 32.0 to 32.45, longitude -111.2 to -110.65). That keeps 670 places (1,076 of the 1,100 cards, so 24 cards fall outside) and drops 22. The counts below are of the 670 places unless stated. An empty stored hours list counts as no stored hours. I measured distance in a straight line between stored coordinates. The rows I used were last updated between 20 April and 26 October 2026.
- Of the 670 places, 607 have a stored rating, and 365 of those are rated 4.0 or higher (60%). 186 are rated 4.5 or higher (31%). The median stored rating is 4.0. 482 of the 670 have stored weekly hours (72%).
- I defined sights by stored category, after lower-casing the name and removing underscores so that "TouristAttraction", "tourist_attraction" and "touristattraction" count once: tourist attractions, museums (including art and history museums), parks, art galleries, theaters and concert halls, gardens, zoos, landmarks and amusement places. That gives 97 sights (14% of the in-town places) in 12 stored categories: park (24), art gallery (22), museum (21), tourist attraction (11), theater and concert hall (11), garden (2), and one each of theater, zoo, art museum, landmark, history museum and amusement place.
- Sight cards are mixed on data. Of the 97 in-town sights, 61 have a stored rating and reviews, 74 have stored hours (23 have none), and 19 are rated 4.0 or higher with at least 100 stored reviews, of which 16 have hours. Of the 19, 11 are museums, 2 are art galleries, 2 are gardens, 2 are theaters and concert halls, 1 is a tourist attraction and 1 is a park. The 100 line is mine, not a rule in the app.
- Of the 482 places with stored hours, 105 show Monday as closed (22%), 86 Sunday (18%), 56 Tuesday (12%), 20 Wednesday, 19 Saturday, 9 Thursday and 3 Friday. 163 show at least one closed day (34%). Compared with the Chicago deck, where 26% of the places with hours show Monday as closed, Tucson is a little lower.
- The 22 places outside the filter include 7 with a California address, 3 in Phoenix and 11 in other Arizona towns, plus one with a non-US address.
- Landmark search: titles were searched for Saguaro, San Xavier, Mount Lemmon, Old Tucson, Gates Pass, Sentinel Peak, Mission Garden, Fourth Avenue and Catalina State. Only three cards matched, a restaurant and a vacation rental with those words in the name and Nightfall at Old Tucson, an amusement place with no stored rating or review count. None of the national park, mission, mountain or state park names has its own card, so I could not include them.
- I chose the 15 stops by hand: sights with a stored rating of 4.0 or higher and at least 100 stored reviews (lowest rating 4.2, fewest reviews 112), and restaurants rated 4.4 or higher with at least 500 reviews and stored hours, chosen to keep each day in nearby clusters and fit the stored hours. In the two meal boxes I checked (downtown, and the central-east strip) only two and four restaurant cards met 4.3 and 500 reviews with stored hours. They are seven museums, two gardens, two art galleries and four restaurants, across four stored categories. They are not simply the 15 highest-rated cards. Eleven are sights, from the 19 that meet the line, and ten of those 11 have stored hours.
- Using straight-line distance between stored coordinates, day one totals about 6.3 km (longest leg 2.57 km, farthest pair 2.89 km) and day two about 44.8 km (longest leg 20.52 km, farthest pair 27.39 km). The centres of the two days are about 5.1 km apart. These are not driving times.
- Weekday test: with a one-hour margin before closing, the 14 stops that have stored hours pass on Thursday to Saturday for day one and Tuesday to Sunday for day two. The test script is mine and was run on the stored values.
Limits: the ratings, review counts and hours are stored values that may have changed since the dates above. The Arizona State Museum has no stored hours and is not weekday-tested. The suggested start times are mine and are checked only against stored hours. The city filter and the title-and-address merge are my own definitions and were not checked card by card, so a few duplicates or misplaced cards may remain. I left out fees, tickets, parking, transit and travel times because I read no official page for them, and I did not copy any third-party review text.
